The Kings Park Central School District’s Board of Education consists of five members who are elected by the residents of the school district to a three year term.
The Board of Education annually elects a President and a Vice President at the July Reorganization meeting.
As a governing body, the Board of Education conducts public meetings that are printed within the school calendar and posted on the school district’s website. Meetings are generally held on Tuesday evenings at 7:30pm twice per month. The agenda is typically posted for the public on the Monday prior to each meeting. The purpose of these meetings is to conduct the business of the school district by adopting resolutions. Members of the community are able to attend these public meetings. A typical business meeting is divided into the following parts:
- Executive Session (if needed)
- Meeting Opening/Call to Order
- Presentations and/or Recognitions
- Public Comments for Agenda Items Only
- Consent Agenda

- Adjournment
The Board has established that Public Comments are not to exceed 30 minutes. Only Kings Park residents and employees are permitted to comment or make a statement. The Board reserves the right to lengthen this portion of the meeting at their discretion. During the first public comments period, individuals may make public comments that address voting items on the agenda only. Speakers must first identify themselves to the District Clerk, and then address their comments to the Board. Comments by any individual may not exceed three (3) minutes.
- Due to confidentiality concerns, the Board does not permit speakers to raise issues concerning a specific student or a specific personnel matter. Such concerns should be presented to the Superintendent after the Board meeting.
- During the second public comments period, individuals may comment on items that are not on the meeting agenda. This portion of the meeting may last for the duration remaining from the original 30 allotted minutes. The public comments periods are for exactly that - public comments. Although the Board and Superintendent may choose to respond to a comment, this time is not meant to be Q & A time. Specific questions should be presented to the Superintendent after the meeting.
- In addition to public comments, the Board may permit individuals to ask questions during presentations.
- Executive Sessions of the Board are not open to the public. These sessions typically focus on specific confidential personnel items, negotiations, and/or legal matters.
- In addition to regular business meetings, the Board of Education conducts a series of budget workshops during the budget development process. The purpose of these meetings is to publicly discuss the development of the budget and elicit input from the community. Some budget workshops are conducted within a regular meeting, while others are standalone workshops.
Lastly, the Board periodically conducts retreats during the course of the year. The purpose of these meetings are to develop or improve team building or communication skills, conduct school board education and training, and discussion of process.
